Fred Astaire is considered by many the best dancer ever seen on screen. He is of course most known for his dancing duets with Ginger Rogers, whom he shot ten movies with between 1933 and 1949, including the hits "Top Hat", "The Gay Divorcee", "Follow the Fleet" and "Shall We Dance ?".
But Astaire has actually done over 40 movies, and danced with an impressive list of leading ladies, such as Lucille Bremer ("Ziegfeld Follies", "Yolanda and the Thief"), Rita Hayworth ("You'll Never Get Rich", "You Were Never Lovelier"), Judy Garland ("Easter Parade"), Cyd Charisse ("The Band Wagon", "Silk Stockings"), and Audrey Hepburn ("Funny Face").
Astaire always danced with grace and talent, when he was in his thirties, his forties or his fifties. His dancing matured with him, and that is certainly one of the reasons why Fred Astaire has become a silver screen legend.
