Plot :

Hollywood - 1927 : Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a famous silent-film romantic pair. While Lockwood and Lamont personify smoldering passions on screen, off-screen Don Lockwood can't stand Lina. He is in love with aspiring actress Kathy Selden. As the talking (and singing) picture revolution shakes the entire movie industry, the director of Monumental Pictures, R.F. Simpson, decides to promote Cosmo Brown, Don Lockwood's best friend and piano accompanist, to musical director. The first problem he has to overcome is how the Lockwood-Lamont couple will fit in a talking movie. Don, an accomplished dancer and singer, should have no trouble adapting to the microphone.  Memorable quotes

Don Lockwood : Now Lina, you've been reading all those fan magazines again ! Now look Lina, you shouldn't believe all that banana oil Dora Bailey and the columnists dish out. Now try to get this straight: there is nothing between us. There has never been anything between us. Just air.
Cosmo Brown : Lina. She can't act, she can't sing, she can't dance. A triple threat.
Lina Lamont : "People" ? I ain't "people". I am a - "a shimmering, glowing star in the cinema firmament." It says so - right there.
Lina Lamont : What's wrong with the way I talk? What's the big idea ? Am I dumb or something ?
Lina Lamont : They can't make a fool out of Lina Lamont. They can't make a laughing stock out of Lina Lamont. What do they think I am, dumb or something ? Why I make more money than Calvin Coolidge put together !
